The day began with a visit from a little leprechaun friend. He left a note on the boy's door that told them to follow the trail of shamrocks and they will find his treasure. He caused mischief along the way including putting shamrocks on many surfaces, putting the basketball hoop in the bathtub (where it clearly does not belong), and turning the milk green. When we got to the fridge we discovered that he took his gold with him but left some gold candy in place. He left a note that said "better luck next year".
The leprechaun went easy on the boys this year just to make sure they didn't freak out about it. Bridger was extremely skeptical at first. He walked out of his bedroom and looked at the shamrocks on the floor and asked why we put "all this stuff all over" waving his hand in the general direction of everything green. When I told him we didn't do it we found the note and he was hooked. Anything that was out of place today was the leprechaun's fault because he is always up to mischief.
Next year there will be traps set and even more mischief. So fun.
The boys had lucky charms for breakfast and wore their green shirts. Reagan wore her green but she didn't really care. We didn't mention the pinching thing. It wasn't necessary for innocent people to be pinched.
Then we went shooting (very Irish and festive, don't you think?). Brent got a new pistol for his birthday and wanted to try it out. We brought the BB gun for the boys. They mostly watched a movie in the car. The pistol was pretty fun to shoot.
We came home for some lunch and awaited the arrival of our new TV. Its a beauty. Did I mention that our old one bit the dust a couple of weeks ago? The picture flickered and smoke came out the back and it never turned on again. Sad day. So we bought a better brand and bigger size. It is lovely.
The boys all played outside for a couple of hours. It was so nice and who knows what kind of snow is around the corner.
Dinner consisted of a lovely dish called colcannon. Ever heard of it? Neither had we. Apparently it is a traditional Irish meal. It is mashed potatoes prepared like normal mixed with sauteed onions and cabbage. We added polish sausage and kielbasa (because we're multi-cultural like that) for a little more flavor. It was delish. We love cooked cabbage though. Yummy. We ate it on our shamrock plates and felt very festive. The boys even drank some more green milk.
Happy St. Patrick's day to you!
