Bargain Shopper

Ok, so I'm not really a bargain shopper. I'm really bad at it, actually.

I grew up in a town with 1 grocery store, I now live in a town with 3 opitions: Smith's, Jubilee, and Wal-Mart. I do look at the sale ads for the other two stores, but I am pretty lazy and do 99% of my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. Oh, the horror, right?! I do get my hamburger from the other two stores when it is on sale.

So yesterday I was shopping at Wal-Mart and got myself two pretty good deals. Well, maybe not deals, but for lack of a better word, deals. Here they are:

  • I normally by an 18 pack of eggs. I noticed that the 1 dozen boxes were on sale for 96 cents and didn't think about it. Then I started thinking...the 18 packs are 2.06. I can get 2 dozen eggs for less than an 18 pack. I'll get the two cartons of 1 dozen and 6 more eggs for 14 cents less. Steal!! I was proud of myself for actually taking the time to notice the better deal. Pretty obvious to most, but I am so stuck in buying what I always buy that I don't usually take time to notice the price difference.
  • Deal #2: I usually buy the "family size" of the cereal that Brent and I eat. Yesterday I went to grab one and noticed, once again, that the family size was 1.48 more than the normal size. So, I looked at the amounts. The regular size had 14 oz and the family had 17 oz. I decided that paying the extra 1.48 was not worth the 3 oz. So, I bought two regular sizes and paid 1.52 more for 11 more oz instead of just 3. I felt better about that.

Whose the bargain shopper, now?! Well, sadly, still not me. I was still happy with the two small bargains I found for myself yesterday. Baby steps, right?

My sister, Holly, recently joined the world of coupon clipping, ad watching, etc. She showed me all the sites that she uses, and it completely overwhelmed me!! But, it can be a bit addicting when you pay almost nothing for something. She has even gotten money back before. I am slowly joining this club of mainly Mormon moms.

Walmart... oh the horror! :)

What I love is when they have the price per weight... then you can totally figure out if it's a steal or not. And no, I'm not judging about Walmart... :) I just don't like them personally and try to avoid it when I can... which isn't always but whenever possible.

Oooo... sounds like the beginnings of bargain shopping. Be careful, it's addictive!

All it takes to be a bargain shopper is to shop with your EYES WIDE OPEN.

And, I do most of my shopping at WM, too. They price match, so if you do find a deal at one of the other stores, just bring the ad to WM and they'll price match it for you. Oh the horror! :)

Hear I am belated blogger and Holy Cow congrats on the baby-o. I am with you get it done. How are you feeling? Just for the record I am not jumping on the band wagon for this one. Although Corbin is older than Katie and since Andy is slacking in the fix it dept. I guess nothing is certain! Well, I don't share Brent and Bridgers' enthusiasm for the snow but I DO always check my price per oz. at the grocery store. That is all the comparing I do. And I am with you on Walmart. One stop shopping. Why go anywhere else? I am not that into hauling my kids around. But in a perfect world it would be SuperTarget. But here we are in small town Co. not much choice. I can't wait to talk to you!
