Its sad...really.

So we've established that I am not an Obama lover. He's now the president and I'm not sure my life is going to change a whole lot (or anyone else's for that matter). I've pretty much avoided the national news for about 4 or 5 months because I can't stand to listen to the media fawn over the man and his wife and her clothes and their kids, and well, you get the idea. I haven't watched the inaguration today but I did start reading a little blip on MSN a second ago and I was sick. No really, sick to my stomach (I'm not sure why all of this has this affect on me). Here is the part that made me sick:

Some in the crowd, weary of Bush's eight years in office, booed the president when the large viewing screens near the World War II Memorial flashed an image of the exiting president arriving at the swearing-in.

and a little bit further down this:

After the inauguration ceremony, some in the crowd waved at the aircraft in the sky. Others, however, cheered when they heard a television broadcaster announce, "George Bush is no longer president of the United States." Still others in the crowd, broke into chants of "Na-na-na-nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye."

I don't care if you like the guy or not, show a little bit of respect, both the media and the general public. I hope the hooplah dies down once he gets going and everything is business as usual because I really cannot stand this much longer. Its annoying.

I was talking to my mom today, while she was watching all the Inauguration Hoopla, and she asked me if I had watched. I said, "No Way." I have been totally boycotting the whole thing. Thanks for posting, because I feel the same way that you do.

Well. I don't feel the same way as you do but you know that already. Perhaps the "hooplah" as many call it might be too much for some but if you've been boycotting the media, how would you even know about it? :) I agree that respect should be shown to Pres. Bush too. Though I don't agree with many of his actions, I do feel that he was a man who did what he felt was right for this nation.

Try not to avoid the media too much because I think you would find that Pres. Obama will be one of greatest presidents yet.

I read that article you posted. You forgot to mention all the kind things it mentioned: ie., the gifts Mrs. Obama gave to Mrs. Bush, the welcome they received in Texas, etc. I find that many aren't even giving the new President a chance but are completely judging him based on a few minor beliefs he holds. You don't mention his cabinet members, some of his greatest critics whom he will now work with. Nor is it mentioned the numerous meetings he's had with both friends and foe in an effort to bring the nation together. His decision to not further divide the nation by allowing the Bush tax cuts to run their course is not mentioned. And lastly, his attempt to make each American responsible for the outcome of this nation is not touched upon. I feel that these many actions and attributes he has, if his naysayers will only give him a chance, will ultimately bring our nation together. But continuing to ignore and be critical will further divide.

Just my take on it...

Amen! That's all I have to say to that!

Abbie,
I hope you're right.

Still doesn't convince me to like him, or the way the media has tried to make him the savior of the United States.

But, I hope to get a nice "economic stimulus" check in a couple of months. What was his take on that? I haven't been paying attention. I just know he wants everyone to be happy. A couple of thousand dollars will make me happy. I'm easy to please.

I boycott the media on a regular basis, so this is nothing new for me. Never been one for watching the news. I just look at the weather on the internet. And, we don't watch a lot of TV anyways, so it wasn't hard for me to skip the Inauguration hoopla.

I think that in any case, it's important to give anyone (my co-workers, the president, the mean bus driver, etc) the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what Obama actually does as president. I didn't like some of Bush's decisions, but I accepted that he did what he felt was best at the time. I have heard Pres. Obama say the same. I'm happy to see a presidency that reflects the diversity of this country already. It's evident that many people have more hope in America already, and that's the first step in repairing an injured nation.

Also, you have to acknowledge that there will be ignorance (like those people being completely immature at Bush's farewell) everywhere you go. It's unfortunate, but true. It's too bad that they had to taint a powerful moment in our history by being negative.

That said, the great thing about America is that we can voice our opinion! I hope that any disappointment in how the election turned out can be turned into pleasant surprise. I hope that for all Americans, as we're facing pretty hard times.

As I was reading your blog I actuall said "Amen" as I finished. I must confess though that I did watch the inaguration. One of my co-workers is really in to politics and I was just kind of caught up in the happenings. Anyway...I did vote and it was not for our new president. I am not sure what our future is going to be like for our country but we can only hope for the best. We are told that we are as wicked as they were in the days of Noah even more so. You know the last days are getting closer. I did like hearing the band and watching all the former Presidents and their wives come. I did not hear about the booing for President Bush and that is disrespectful. All of Obama's cabinet are former Clinton people. What does that say? The people loved Clinton and looked past his mistakes. We are definately a confussed people.
