Oatmeal

After I put Bridger down for a nap I was wondering what to do with myself today. Don't get me wrong, I have a whole list of things I should be doing, but I've been really good at wasting my time lately. I just haven't had much motivation to do anything great. Anyway...so I was thinking some cookies would be nice for when Brent got home from school. The homemake in me must be screaming to get out. I try to suppress that person as much as possible. I decided on Oatmeal cookies. I had visions of making beautiful cookies. I would remember to put enough flour in them so that they didn't go flat when they baked. The last couple of times this hasn't been the case (remembering enough flour). Well, I succeeded in putting enough flour in the cookies, perhaps too much flour! They have basically the same shape they did when I put them in the oven!
Oh well, they still taste ok, I tried them myself.

I used our secret family recipe. I would love to share it with you, however that won't be necessary because if you buy Quaker brand rolled oats, it is on the lid. Here is that funny story. Every time we would go visit my grandma and grandpa Hamblin they would have cookies that my grandpa had made. Brent loved them (he usually took two or three). He was always bugging me to get the recipe. So finally one time when we were there I asked for the recipe. Grandpa just kind of laughed and said, let me find the lid to the oatmeal. We thought it was some old family recipe that he had perfected. So now we joke that it is our secret family recipe!! They are yummy.
This then reminded me of yet another oatmeal story. Really, how many oatmeal stories can one family have...When we were living in Logan Brent really wanted oatmeal cookies. I was probably not in the mood to bake and so Brent got a brilliant idea. He was sure that he just needed to cook up a little instant oatmeal packets and then stick them on a cookie sheet and bake them and the goop would magically turn into cookies. I tried to tell him it wouldn't work, but in the end he had to see for himself. As you probably guessed, it didn't work. You really do need a few other ingredients other than oatmeal and water to make cookies.

In the middle of making cookies, Bridger woke up from his nap. He had some serious computer work to be doing. Let's be honest, if the chair is out, he has serious work to be done on the computer.

We're headed to Casper tonight. Star Valley is playing Natrona in basketball. Really, it gives us an excuse to get out of Douglas. Brent coached the juniors on the Star Valley team when they were freshmen. So they have a special little spot in his heart. Too bad they might get run over tonight by Natrona. Anyway...it gives me an excuse to get to Target and possibly Hobby Lobby, if Brent is in the mood:)

They look really yummy. I want to make some cookies now, I think that I just might. It is actually really windy in Des Moines today. We have had wind chill temperatures of nearly 20 BELOW zero. Really Cold!

The cookies 'looked' good. Feel free to come over any time and cook us up some of the secret recipe. Good to talk to you the other day.
