It's only noon!

This is what I did this morning after Bridger laid down for a nap. I made granola (in case you couldn't see what it is). While living with my Grandma Kennington, she made granola for us. I was familiar with granola because my mother used to make it for us. Brent was not so familiar and loved the stuff. Every time we go to pick out cereal he says, hey why don't you just make your grandma's granola? Picking cereal is really hard for Brent and granola seems to be a solution to making a choice.
Last night when we were on our way to the store I grabbed the recipe so I could make some. It is surprisingly easy. I just have to figure out exactly how long to bake it. Oh, and when the recipe says "runny or warm" honey. It means it. I tried using room temperature honey and it just clumped up. Anyway...I didn't think it was too bad for my first attempt. The batches got darker as I went. I think the first turned out perfect, golden brown and just the right crunch. I hope it tastes good, and Brent is happy with the result!

While I was waiting for the granola to bake I tried reading this book. I have heard nothing but good things about it and so I checked it out at the library the other day. I have been really excited to read it. I must say I am disappointed. I don't know if it is because I am waiting for something really great to happen, or if it is based in high school, or if I really don't like fantasy, I'm not sure. I just know that I'm not enchanted by it like the rest of the world seems to be. Sorry to all of you fans out there. I'm about 150 pages in...does it get better? For now I think I'll just put it back and read the free book I got at the library. Its called My Antonia. It was free because it is a book that is being read across the whole state of Wyoming as part of "The Big Read". Everyone, who wants one, gets a book free. You are supposed to read it and then pass it along. At libraries across the state they have book discussions and stuff. I'll probably just read it and then...keep it. Is that bad? If someone wants to borrow it I'll let them. Hopefully I like it better than the other book.

Oh girl! I loved Twilight. I am not a fantasy person either but once Edward really joins the picture it was sooooo great. Keep on trying and I won't be offended if you still don't like it.

As for My Antonia, I loved that too. I read it for an independent study class that I never finished, but I did finish the book and it was great. The other book we read to go along with that was My Sister Carrie. The carrie book was a contrasting view of rural life. Once you read both it is kind of neat to see how each girl's values effect them. Try it!

p.s. I wanna free book (whine)

Dad and I just finished MA and we both enjoyed it. I enjoyed the way it mirrored real life - seems like much of it must be taken from real experiences - or else it's well written. It has a slower pace than we're used to.

Granola looks good. You've been a busy kid!

I just finished 'My Antonia' in the read across Wyoming series too, and loved the easy reading. It sort of reminded me of how things were when I was growing up although it wasn't in rural America. But the life was just as easy going. We loved to have the farm kids come into school. They put us all to shame as far as work was concerned.
Grandpa H.
P.S. loved the crafting items you did for our house too.

I can't believe you don't like Twilight!! The truth is, you're probably much more mature than me, that's why. They are definitely meant for the teenage girl audience. Actually, Natali didn't care much for them either, even though she read all 3 books in a week. I am at a stand still trying to figure out what to read now though. Maybe I will try the Wyoming book! I would say don't give up on Stephenie Meyers yet though!

Ya, everyone is raving about Twilight... whatever. I guess I can't slam it because I haven't read it but come one, I have 1000+ pages of Dante's Divine Comedy to read, like I have time to read books about vampires. Whatever.
